Meet Map: Shiobhan, Teacher

Here is a transcript of our conversation with Shiobhan, a Map teacher.

Shiobhan: Growing up, I always thought of being a teacher. I grew up in a non-traditional environment. I’ve had different things happen to me that weren’t normal, and people couldn’t understand my experience. I wanted to become a teacher to reach out to those students, to reach out to the students that needed to have that safety and security and a consistent thing in their lives then they can learn. That’s what I’m able to do as a teacher here. I’m able to come in here and use my experience and form relationships and allow students to feel comfortable and vulnerable enough to learn, and then we can start to teach. At Map, I can teach how I want.
