Meet Map: Joanna, Alumni
Here is a transcript of our conversation with Joanna, a Map alumni.
Joanna: Hi, I’m Joanna, I’m 17 and I go to Map Academy. I’ve been going to Map Academy for just about two years. The biggest way they’ve helped me, or Map Academy has helped me, stay on track is constantly contacting you. There’s always someone that’s going to check up on you and follow up with your progress during school, which always helps, when people are going through a hard time.
I feel that Map Academy is a very supportive and understanding school because of the flexible schedule. Whenever they’re open, you can drop in. It goes with your schedule of work. At Map Academy, how they allow you to have more freedom with coming in, attendance and your courses, you have a lot of opportunities to choose which ones you need or to make a better outline. They give you so much responsibility. It’s a bunch of different things.
The teachers here, they’re extremely supportive, understanding, and they’re unlike other teachers in that they care more about the individual students more than the overall class, like a regular high school. They’re more worried about the end of the year grades and the terms and not about students that are struggling. They don’t take the time out of their day to really ask them if they need help or if there’s something that’s holding them back in their private lives, which is completely different from here, because they’re more concerned about every student and not just the
overall group.
